17 January 1974, USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr DD850 is towed to Fall River, MA to become the first Destroyer type ship in the world to be preserved as a memorial. Thousands of visitors have toured this Vietnam era Veteran since then that represents the NAVY of that era, the Tin Can Navy, and the sailors that served on them.
