Traditional wooden schooner (Caïque) Evangelistria

Post by Ayanamikun »

Evangelistria is one of the last examples of the traditional shipbuilding practices of the Aegean islands. She is a type called "perama" similar to the "Caïque" type of boats.
Built in Syros island, in 1939, she is 90 tons, 20 m x 6,38m, has two mast and schooner rig. She was used as a cargo ship between islands. She was in a bad state in the 1980s, but was restored in 1988-1989 and now even sails, occasionally, for exhibitions. Her usual place in next to Averof, in the Naval Tradition Park in Athens.
