On 4 September 1944, Gearing-class destroyer Everett F. Larson (DD-830) was laid down at Bath Iron Works, Bath Maine.
She was transferred to South Korea on 30 October 1972 and is now a museum ship at the Gangneung Unification Park, Gangneung, South Korea.

U-2540 had been scuttled on 4 May 1945, raised in June 1957 (12 years later!) and overhauled at Howaldtswerke, Kiel, Germany.
