Eversole (DD-789) laid down

81 years ago today, on 28 February 1945, Gearing-class destroyer USS Eversole (DD-789) was laid down at Todd Pacific Shipyards, Seattle, WA.
She was transferred to Turkey on 11 July 1973 as TCG Gayret D-352, and is now a museum ship in Izmit, Turkey.

Cobia SS-245 loses crewmember by enemy fire

79 years ago today USS Cobia suffers her only casualty of WWII.
20mm loader Ralph Clark Huston Jr was wounded by enemy fire the day before during an egagement in which Cobia sank two targets with gunfire. He succumbs to his wounds and is buried at sea the on February 27 1945.
