Post by Ayanamikun »

Thalis is a steamship built in 1909 in Newport News shhipyard in Virginia US. She was sold to Greece in 1947 and rebuilt into a telecommunication cable laying ship for the Greek state. She still has her original steam engines and the original steam powered cable laying apparatus from her rebuilt.
475,69 tons, 51,26 m x 10,34. She served, connecting the Greek islands laying more than 140 cables and repairing 630 in a 40 year career until 1983. She was then turned into a museum ship, moored in the great "Park of naval tradition" in Athens along with her famous stablemates.
