USS Charette (DD-581) commissioned
83 years ago today, on 18 May 1943 Fletcher-class destroyer USS Charrette (DD-581) was commissioned, with Commander E. S. Karpe in command.
After transfer to Greece in 1959 as "Velos' (D16), she became a museum ship near Athens in 1994. Currently in Thessaloniki
