USS North Carolina BB-55 torpedoed

On 15 September 1942, North Carolina -class battleship USS North Carolina BB-55 was torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-19 and hit on her port (left) side just forward of the thick armor belt designed to protect her from torpedoes.
