USS Gallup laid down

81 years ago today, on 18 August 1943, Tacoma-class frigate USS Gallup (PF-47) was laid down at Consolidated Steel Corporation, Wilmington, California. She was later transferred to, and returned by the Soviet Union, and finally transferred to Thailand on 29 October 1951 as HTMS Prasae.
She is now a museum ship at Paknam Prasae, Thailand

USCGC Bittersweet (WLB-389) decommissioned

On 18 August 1997, Iris-class 180-foot buoy tender USCGC Bittersweet (WLB-389) was decommissioned. She was transferred to Estonia on 5 September 1997 as 'Valvas' (PVL-109), and is now a museum ship in Tallinn, Estonia.
