On 11 October 1911, lake freighter Col. James M. Schoonmaker entered service for the Shenango Furnace Company.

Forceful decommissioned

On 11 October 1943, tugboat HMAS Forceful (W-126) was decommissioned from Naval service and returned to civilian duties.
During her war service she was based at Darwin and operated mainly in northern Australian waters.
She received two battle honours for her wartime service: "Darwin 1942-43" and "Pacific 1941-1943".
Now a museum ship at the Queensland Maritime Museum, Brisbane, QLD, Australia

Haida decommissioned

On 11 October 1963, HMCS Haida (DDE215) was decommissioned. She is the last remaining Tribal-class destroyer.

USS McAnn commissioned

On 11 October 1943, Cannon-class destroyer escort USS McAnn (DE-179) was commissioned at New York, Commander Charles F. Hooper in command.
She was transferred to Brazil on June 30 1953 as 'Commandante Bauru' (D-18), and is now a museum ship in Rio de Janeiro.
