Gallup decommissioned

73 years ago today, on 29 October 1951, Tacoma-class frigate USS Gallup (PF-47) was decommissioned in Yokosuka, and transferred under the Military Defense Assistance Program along with her sister ship Glendale to Thailand and served thereafter in the Royal Thai Navy as HTMS Prasae (PF 2). Prasae remained in service until struck from the Thai Navy Register and decommissioned on 22 June 2000.
She is now a museum ship at Paknam Prasae, Thailand.

Intrepid hit by kamikaze

80 years ago today, on 29 October 1944, Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) was hit by a kamikaze on one of her port side gun positions; damage was minimal though ten men were killed and another six were wounded.
