Wampanoag commissioned

80 years ago today, on 8 December 1944, auxiliary ocean-going tug USS Wampanoag (ATA-202) was commissioned, LT. Ralph M. Kurz, USNR in command. As of 25 February 1959 she became the USCGC Comanche (WATA-202), and today she is a operational museum ship in Tacoma, WA.
