Laid down in 1942 and launched in 1941 "Dekaury" served in the 1st naval district in New York city. In 1945 the tug transferred to San Francisco to be fitted for service in the pacific, but WWII ended and she was fitted to be a submarine assist in the bay area. Retiring from the navy in 1985 after a staggering 42 year career.
After her naval career she had a challenging life. Serving as a fireboat for the port of Stockton in California for a brief period, then battling the scrap yard, she passed hands several times until landing in the care of two gentlemen who saw her restoration to her 1945 configuration. The restoration has lasted 19 years and is near completion.
After a 19 year restoration "Dekaury" is donated to HMF to serve as the foundation's flagship and planning and preparation begin to transition the vessel from Alameda, CA to Seattle WA.
